It's with a heavy heart that Player Two and I announce that we will be closing The Borough of Abingdon, effective Friday, June 21st.
Abingdon opened back in January. At that time, there were different owners, and it was situated on a different parcel. Due to some internal conflict, the sim was temporarily closed and relocated. After the move, however, things just weren't the same. Population slowly dwindled and roleplay suffered. Then the old owner decided that she was no longer interested in maintaining the sim, and left it completely to Abigail.
We had a soft closing, which gave us time ro redesign the game floor and rewrite the lore. At first, it seemed that our hopes were coming to fruition - we attracted some of the most amazing roleplayers to be found in SL and we were forming friendships... best of all, we were able to take part in some incredible stories! It wasn't perfect (I'm sure you all remember coming in to find that half the structures had been removed- oof), but it was a wonderful environment that gave players the space they needed to weave really intricate, wonderful stories. However, despite the good times we shared, it seems that with all other good things, Abingdon's time has come to an end. We have been quite lonely here!
Some of you made some fabulous suggestions recently (thank you!), but unfortunately, we had tried those things in the past and they just never seemed to work. We don't want people to feel the need to farm XP through daily quests, nor do we want anyone to feel obligated to play here.
So, rather than push to give you something that no longer holds your interest, we have decided to take our creative energies in a different direction! We have already started working on a whole new sim (hint: it's modern!), and will be ready to roll it out to you within the next couple of months. We know - that seems like a long time, but we want to make sure every aspect of the new sim is as close to perfect as possible!
If you follow us on Discord, we will keep everyone posted there regarding updates with the new sim. We hope you'll come and visit us when we open!
A huge thanks to everyone who dedicated their time, energy, creativity and friendship. Abingdon may be leaving, but we have the extraordinary honor of hanging on to the wonderful people we've met along the way. You made Abingdon an incredible place to be and we're grateful for the time we had here together.
Take care and best of luck in your adventures - we hope you'll continue them with us in the future!
♥
