Fair warning that this at first reads more as a long winded chatlog of an easter egg hunt than a full on RP, but it does turn into a real RP session eventually!~.
Below is the initial prompt from PlayerTwo.
A storm kicked up in the night with winds that bent the trees and streaks of lightning shot across the sky in a dazzling display. Hooded figures moved through the street despite the squall and seemed to spread out from the center of town. As morning breaks and those move along the docks to fetch household food stuffs there were a few boats that had been slammed into the rocky coast. At some point within the night a constable has gone missing- his partner reporting that he went missing near the docks. Word gets round at the pub that with his disappearance there were strange figures moving about in the storm. No sane person would do that would they? Word would spread in hushed whispers that something was seen off shore just before he was noticed missing by a fisherman unloading late night cargo. The gossip milling around from lips to ears says something unusual attacked the man though no one really seems to come forward- perhaps its just a fabrication drawn out.
[There are clues around the sim that someone or something has caused our missing person to meet with a grizzly end. Who or what it is may remain a mystery unless enough of you are able to piece together the clues. IF YOU FIND A CLUE PLEASE IM PLAYER TWO- some clues are limited and some are not. Some clues once found will be in a singular persons possession so please play fair and do not hog all the clues. Help one another explore and deduce what or who has caused the man to go missing].
Arrived in the Abingdon Docks to find the dismembered leg of the poor victim against a brick wall. She then spent some time searching Abingdon for the remnants of this poor mortal.~ Finding his parts liberally distributed about the borough.~
[PMs to Player Two]
Rae: Hello~ Thus so far I have discovered foot prints, a strange red symbol, and a leg.~
Player Two: ok where did you find the leg?
Rae: beside the red symbol at the docks~
Rae: Both are pretty much directly in front of the footprints
Player Two: kk did you icly take the leg?
Rae: hmmm.... no~ it being so out in the open I examined it but did not touch it.
Player Two: ok
Player Two: reason i ask is cause if someone takes it i have to be aware and remove it
Rae: understandable ^^
Rae: ((Do you need to know anything about my character for this?))
Player Two: no no its fine we just have clues hidden out all over the sim and i just need to kinda keep track who has what
Rae: ((ah no worries~ Is there any information I glean from the leg? Or do I need to move on?))
Player Two: nothing other than it was pulled off a living individual rather than cut up after the fact
Player Two: you might also smell the brine of the sea
Rae: ((ah alright~ I shall continue the search~ Is the puddle of what looks like urine near the horses relevant?))
Player Two: nah its not and yea you can look around if youd like
Rae: ok ^^ oh! Also there is another errant limb over by one of the warehouses, is that relevant?
Player Two: yup! do you see anything else by it?
Rae: A man was all I saw earlier
Player Two: just inspect the area well if you see a limb theres always going to be something else by it
Rae: Or well, there is also another symbol and a cage above it with blood.
Player Two: the cage is irrelevant to it but the symbol is worth noting
Rae: hmmm... is the conversation of the two gentlemen at the bookstore relevant? It seems to hint at a werewolf... but does not seem to provide much of a direction of where one might look next.~
Player Two: no they are just speaking about lycans they are not really relevant to it but one might assume it is
Rae: ah~
Rae: ooo I went to the library partially out of frustration at not being able to locate another clue and found blood leading into a wall.~
Rae: hmmm.... tapping on the stones does not seem to reveal any hidden door...
Player Two: in which building
Rae: The library~
Player Two: right click touch
Rae: ah~
Rae: that did it~
Player Two: its to keep accidental clicks just be suire when you step through you do it again to seal it off
Rae: This initially spooked me because I was exploring around the boat and did not expect it to be a teleporter x3
Rae: ooo~ tasty tasty human head.~ ♥
Player Two: look up
Player Two: you being an old ones creation would likely be able to read it [d-a-g-o-n]
Rae: oooo~
Rae: And there's a piece of parchment here. May I take it?
Player Two: its protected on the spot you would need to roll higher than 75 to be able to break its protection
Rae: Alright~ How do my stats affect my rolls? :oc
Player Two: its a wisdom roll
Player Two: so click roll and then add your wisdom points to it
Rae: Do you mean intellect? :oc the note card I got upon setup was that I have strength, dex and int :oc
Player Two: yea intelect is wisdom
Rae: ah okie dokie just wanted to be sure ^^;
Rae: fooey~ rolled a 56 so thats... 61 total int roll.
Player Two: it might spark your hand
Rae: ouch!~ Testy thing...
Rae: Does the head still have it's brain? >w>
Rae considers the head slightly hungrily <w<
Player Two: it likely does
Rae: Is it too protected?
Player Two: anything on the alter would be under the 75 roll protection
Rae: ah~ Well I already failed that so I guess I shall have to leave the tasty tasty brain alone :T
Player Two: well you can attempt it with each thing on there
Player Two: so theres a page a head and a gut pike
Player Two: pile
Rae: ah~
Rae: well let's see what I roll on the head...
Rae: oo!
Rae: nat 84
Player Two: BOOM head is yours
Player Two: ill remove it in a moment
Player Two: surprise head
Rae is disappointed she could not take the document and fulfill her holy duty to protect Eldritch knowledge, but her disappointment is abated by the tasty morsel as she brings the head to her mandibular tentacles and with a soft crack, starts to slurp up the tasty brains ♥
Player Two: can she take memories from what brains she eats akin to ghouls?
Rae: I was thinking so, but I was starting to feel a bit self concious about the number of concessions you all have made for me ^^;
Player Two: Well to keep it vague the only thing she might be able to make out is something akin to an angler fish in SUPER close up
Player Two: it might be worth meeting the librarian if you have ic questions
Rae: alrighty~
Rae slurps on her treat thinking about how very *dagon-y* that memory is...
Rae: So is this the kind of thing one could count for experience points? :oc
Player Two: yes but the hunt isnt over just part of it
Player Two: theres still a lot of things that will be around and it will take a group effort to piece it all together coherently
Rae: Oh I figured not, but the Librarian is not here at the moment so I figured I would ask~ ^^
Player Two: you could icly leave him a written note that you might want to do research or speak with him about suspicious things and see if he has seen anything odd
Player Two: cause he met benidict and boy is he odd
Rae: alright~ That's not a bad idea :oc
Rae: oh!~ I just checked and the website does not list a librarian :oc
Player Two: corbyn hes new and we are waiting on nyna to pop back on and update it though the thing with "factions" and "places" is that weve noticed in the past people that get elected to the positions often abandon them so we are making sure he intends to actually use it
Rae: ((ah~ so should I attempt to contact him, or just RP it with you? :oc))
Player Two: attempt to contact him
Rae: ((alrighty~))
To the Librarian of Abingdon Library.
My dear Sir,
I should very much like to call upon you at your earliest convenience, to pursue an inquiry into the current events which have affected the late partner to the night's Constable. I have some rather queer information that I believe your insight might render of greater use to me.
Please do me the honor of responding with haste and with all due prudence to keep this inquiry between the two of us. Simply leave a note for me in reply on the table across the street from the "Fly By Night" bookstore.
A humble request from a Dancer.~
Corbyn cleared his throat, noticing the woman by the bookstand, "Excuse me, miss."
Rae looks at you through the reflection in the dirty shop windows, "Hello Mr. Boranoi~"
Corbyn bowed his head, "What can I do for you? I'm afraid I'm a simple librarian and don't know very much about... well the message was a bit mysterious."
Corbyn shrugged simply, "Nothing, I'm afraid. I did not know him, but I am a stranger to this town and don't know anyone to speak of..." Her appearance was strangely unnerving but he couldn't put his finger on it for some reason. He tried to be polite all the same, "Pray tell, who was this man?"
Rae gazes at you deeply, her gaze uncomfortably piercing.~ "I believe his name was Benedict. Does that mean anything to you?"
Corbyn 's spine felt a shiver run up it and he tensed his shoulders but shook his head, "Er, no... I've never met anyone by that name here. I knew a chap back in Cambridge by that name but last I heard he traveled to France."
Rae: "hmmm~ If you would not mind, tell me about him all the same.~"
Corbyn shifted nervously, "Well... well, he ah, was fairly average. I tutored him in math, he wasn't the brightest but a hard worker. I think his family wasn't doing too well and he missed school occasionally because of it." In the back of his mind he was panicked and concerned what might have befallen the strange fellow he had met the night before in the library, and couldn't imagine anything so dangerous as could harm him. Still, he had sworn to secrecy about the whole event.
Rae appears to listen and ponder, you've talked with people who were attentive listeners before but you get the sense that this is something more, like your every word is being picked apart and consumed.~ "oh? Is there anything more you could tell me about Benedict? What makes you think his family did poorly?"
Corbyn shrugged, feeling very ill at ease in front of the strange woman now. "Ah, well... his family didn't come from a lot of money, but Cambridge as you know is a very elite school. They had to make a lot of sacrifices to send him there. His, ah, father worked for a brewery by day and drove carriages in the evening, I'm not sure what his mother did but I gathered she was always busy as well." Unconsciously his feet started to slowly back away from the woman as though his body was telling him to run but he was too preoccupied trying to maintain composure and concoct a convincing story to appease the woman.
Rae steps forward with the young librarian, not threatening him openly, but not letting him build a distance between them. "Cambridge is indeed rather elite, an expensive school for the son of a Brewer, what about the boy do you think allowed him entry into such a place?"
Corbyn cleared his throat, "Ahem, madam is there a reason you're trying to inquire so deeply about a boy I once went to school with? I can assure you it is not the same Benedict you spoke of."
Rae: "What makes you so sure of that?"
Corbyn furrowed his brow, "Well, as I said, after we graduated, not that long ago I might add, he went to France. I believe his family was from there, originally. There's no way he could have gotten here so soon much less become a notable member of the community, much less get into any sort of trouble. He was a good lad."
Rae tilts her head, "A young partner to a local town constable is notable?"
Corbyn sighs, "For a town this size, yes, joining the local law enforcement would be a high profile social position for someone like him. Notable enough that anyone would notice him missing or make inquiries about him. If a young partner to a local town constable isn't notable, then why the note or your concern?"
Rae pauses to consider this for a moment, "A fair question and a reasonable answer. Let's say that I deal in dark things better left not discussed on a public street corner. Leaving the boy then, Have you noticed anything strange lately? Anything outside of the ordinary personally?"
Corbyn shook his head and looked confused, clutching the edge of his cloak, "No, I can't say that I have. Dark things, you say, you aren't a-a..." he pauses and lowers his voice to a whisper, breathily mouthing out a word that seemed to make him uncomfortable to say, "prostitute, are you?"
Rae seems to smile, the corners of her eyes perking up, she whispers back, "Would you like me to be?"
Corbyn recoiled at the suggestion, returning to his normal tone. "Madam, I am a proper gentleman! I don't engage in such, such... licentious arrangements."
Rae chuckles, "Well one last question Mr. Boranoi, know you anything of angler fish?"
Corbyn nodded slowly, finding the question very disconcerting and unnerving, "Yes... though I don't think I want to know why you ask, so, I think I will be leaving if you have nothing else." He starts to back away and attempts to go around the corner toward the church. His heart feels like it's in his throat and his mind is racing for a solution to this predicament.
Rae (Raedels Gottfried) follows suit but you can feel a sudden pressure on your head ((psychic attack on you~))
Abingdon Dice HUD: Rae rolls 83
Abingdon Dice HUD: Corbyn rolls 6
Corbyn ((oooh))
Corbyn: ((so what would happen here?))
Rae: ((She is exerting her will on you and forcing you to stop.~))
Corbyn ((nods))
Rae (Raedels Gottfried): ((It would be more disconcerting and scary than painful.~ You would feel disoriented and like you'd been suddenly kicked into a dream.~))
Corbyn groans out loud and grasps his skull as it suddenly feels as though he's hung over, staggering and unable to push himself forward.
Corbyn (100041 Resident): ((oh okay))
Corbyn (100041 Resident): ((sorry))
Rae (Raedels Gottfried): ((no worries, that's fine~))
Corbyn (100041 Resident): ((well, it was a good character while it lasted))
Rae walks up to you and calmly addresses you, "You know more than you are telling me Mr. Boranoi~ I think you will find that rather difficult to do now. Please tell me what you know." she says as she comes closer. Her face so close now you can see into her truban and veil to see her inhuman eyes.
Rae (Raedels Gottfried): ((hehe~ You might not be as dead as you think.~))
Corbyn (100041 Resident): ((im okay taking a death but another player might be upset if i vanished lol))
Rae (Raedels Gottfried): ((oh you won't vanish~ But you might find it a bit harder to be as ~helpful~ as you've been so far.~))
Corbyn wavers under the pressure of the bizarre waves assaulting his mind making the world around him feel surreal and out of focus. "The... thing in the walls... it laughed at me... warned me... something was coming... gave me a key... told me of a scroll..."
Rae continues her assault on your mind. The world around you starts to pulsate and vibrate.~ "Where is the key? What did it tell you about the scroll?"
Corbyn fell to his knee and shook his head, "It vanished... an illusion... the scroll was blank... all a cruel trick... the books, the books were hungry... I had to escape."
Rae presses further, the cobblestones of the street seeming to quake beneath you, her voice booming in your mind, "Where is the key Mr. Boranoi?"
Corbyn wailed, grasping his skull, "I swear to you, I carried it to the gate, when I placed it in the lock it became insubstantial, an illusion, I don't have it anymore... it was all a trick to feed me to those infernal books but I ran."
Corbyn: ((pretty sure i really don't have it unless raz says otherwise then we can correct it))
Rae bends over and reaches down, her clawed hand gripping your chin and turning you to look up at her as she pulls her veil away with her other hand. Her revealed face is a writhing black mass of tentacles and eyes. Such bright horrible eyes that pierce into your mind. "The Key and the Gate Mr. Boranoi. Beware the Key and the Gate. Your curiosity will take you there again." she booms in your mind.
Corbyn: ((i was under the impression it disappeared))
Rae: ((that's fine just wanted to make sure.~ I have to guard my Master's domain.~))
Corbyn cried and whined, "But I don't want to go, the thing in the walls, it stripped me to my underwear with its evil magic and laughed at me!"
Rae cares not for your wailing and pulls you to her face to cover your vision in her writhing tentacles, her last assault on your mind knocking you unconscious on the cold cobblestone street. ~
Corbyn: ((that part was kinda hilarious ooc but he was terrified))
Rae: ((hehe))
Rae: ((I can imagine~))
Corbyn howled in a muffled tone, "Glarblefughujuh!," then his body fell limp on the street.
Rae: (( OOCLY When you wake up you should not clearly remember her nor what happened here and you should be even more inclined to not reveal what you know, less like being unwilling and more like PTSD making the memory go away temporarily.~ ))
Corbyn ((nods))
Corbyn: ((thanks :) ))
Corbyn: ((for the face rape))
Corbyn: ((lol))
Rae: (( hehe good RP ♥ perhaps next time you might see her inside the Gate and get more than just a face rape >;3c ))
Corbyn: ((ooooh))
Corbyn: ((ahem i mean ewwww, yeah thats the ticket >.>))
Corbyn: ((<3))
Rae: (( ♥ Just a bit of OOC background for you, you just met a "Dancer of Yog Sothoth~ a priestess to the Elder God of knowledge.~ "The Great Gate" ))
Corbyn: ((oh I see))
Corbyn: ((thanks again))
Rae: (( her job is to make sure that humans cannot breach Yog Sothoth and gain access to knowledge they are not meant to have.~ ))
Rae: (( and what for? Was good RP on both sides tonight ♥ ))
Fun! We love it - thanks so much for sharing! And we can't wait to see more! (also, so many exclamation marks!!!)
